Our Instructors
All our instructors are professionals who have been developed to
offer the highest quality instruction. Every member of our
instructor team is approachable, caring, and possesses a true love
for teaching martial arts. After taking just a few lessons, you will
see why Beyond Kung Fu is Brampton’s choice for martial arts.
Mike
Cann-Head Instructor/School Owner
Mr. Cann started his
training at the age of 12 and has been training in the martial arts
for more than 14 years. Mr. Cann is the
Head Instructor and proud owner of Beyond Kung Fu Studios Brampton
and shows great passion and enthusiasm for the martial arts.
He achieved his Black Sash at the age of 16
under Master Satyen Raja. Mr. Cann is also an enthusiastic
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner under Professor Dan Moroney (2nd
degree black belt in the Royler Gracie/David Adiv system).
Mr. Cann’s love and passion for the art goes
far beyond training and he demonstrates this in the classes he
teaches. His goal is to deliver the many benefits of the martial
arts to people of all ages and to literally give back what he
received over the many years of his training with Beyond Kung Fu
Studios. Mr. Cann has been teaching martial arts for over 10 years
in Brampton and his confident, energetic style effectively conveys a
message of safety, reality and fun all while drawing out the best in
his students.
Mr. Cann continues to teach all over the world
the ancient values that the martial arts possess, allowing people of
all walks of life to get in touch with their inner strength and be
able to take it out into everyday life.
Mr. Cann has made it his mission to transmit
the benefits of martial arts to any and all who wish to learn. “It
is a great honor to be able to help people reach higher levels in
all aspects of their lives”. He truly believes that it is not daily
increase but decrease that leads to true success. Like
Michelangelo’s sculpture of David. He didn’t create David. He was
always there…..He only chipped away the rough edges.
Brad
Hutchinson-Instructor/Writer
Mr. Hutchinson specializes
in motivating students to achieve better grades, improve
self-esteem, and develop the confidence it takes to move into this
new era with the tools to succeed. He has written and published
three books; the latest a children's adventure story which can be
found at his website
Chapter Books
for Children. He attributes his success to his many years
of training at Beyond Kung Fu.
Under the personal instruction of Master
Satyen Raja and all the Instructors and Students at
Beyond Kung Fu Hutchinson has developed the skills to usher in
this great era with confidence and success. Through the tenets
underlying all modern martial arts Hutchinson puts on powerful
presentations that motivate, inspire, and open possibilities.
Mr. Hutchinson also
understands the importance of giving back to the community. He sits
on The Board of Directors for the
Leadership Peel Program
as Co-Chair of Curriculum Committee. He is also a volunteer for the
Peel Children’s Centre/Peel
Children’s Aid.
Quintal Singh-Reception/Assistant Instructor
Quintal Singh is one of
Beyond Kung Fu’s most dedicated, persistant, and enthusiastic
Assistant Instructors. Ms. Quin gives back the same energy back to
the studio that attracted her to it in the beginning; a welcoming
aura with a level of attention that keeps warmth alive within the
studio all throughout the year.
Ms. Quin has always had the
personality where physical challenges attracted her. Whether it is
generating power with her small frame up or working with classmates
that are more than twice her size, these challenges helped to build
her drive and determination over the past 4 years.
There are visible benefits
of training apparent in Ms. Quin, which many other seek as well.
Included in these benefits are increased focus on nutrition,
confidence, a peaceful heart, an appreciative manor with a constant
smiling attitude. Ms. Quin also finds ways to adjust people’s
unconscious negative thoughts, in to positive one's.
“Kung Fu has opened me in a way that I am more positive, open and
honest with myself. I’ve seen these positive changes, and so do my
family and friends.”
Douglas Allan-Assistant Instructor
Student,
assistant instructor and friend. Douglas Glenn Allan was going
through hard times and decided that he should make some changes in
his life, he had received some information from a colleague about
Beyond Kung Fu Studios and the benefits that she has received. He
walked into the Studio and walked out as a member, and has been a
member at Beyond Kung Fu Studios since April 2003. At this time he
currently is at the brown sash level.
Doug has been
enthusiastic about martial arts for many years; he started his
training at OOI’s Taekwondo in Mississauga. He studied for two
years under the tutelage of Master Hong-Lye Ooi, he left as a green
belt to pursue another passion. That other passion was football.
Football was where he first learned the value of being a team
player, and how important accountability is.
Douglas is a
young, enthusiastic leader, who is very passionate about helping and
just being there for others, this is the main reason for enrolling
in the instructor program. Through the years Doug has become an all
round better person with the help from all the other students, but
mainly the three instructors.
“You
failed many times, although you don’t remember. You fell down the
first time you tried to walk. You almost drowned the first time you
tried to swim. Don’t worry about failure. Worry about the chances
you miss when you don’t even try.”
Steven Godfrey-Assistant Instructor
Steve Godfrey has been training at Beyond
Kung Fu Studios since September of 2005. In this time frame he has
attained Red Sash.
Upon completion of this, a new training began
with Beyond and has taken the forefront in regard to both interest
and application. From that point on, Mr. Godfrey’s burning desire
to learn efficiently and share with others has been a motivating
factor in his continual development.
A range of personal
goals are now clear. The instructors and students at BKFS have
assisted in giving him the strength and determination to act upon
these goals; to add a positive outlook on life and also be drawn to
everyday habits that improve his life and the lives of those around
him.
Andrew McKay-Assistant Instructor
Andrew McKay first began his training a year
and a half ago on a whim. Initially hoping to acquire more
discipline, direction and fitness in his life, he quickly adapted to
the teachings and principles of the Martial Arts.
His avid interest and desire to learn has been
tempered by his love for all facets of the Arts. After training his
first year, Andrew joined the Demo team enjoys participating in
various Martial Arts Demonstrations throughout the year.
Referencing an article that he read at the
studio called “Ten Minutes a Day to Black Sash,” he was able to
become proficient in the use and application of the arts. He enjoys
training with weapons and has incorporated them into his
performances in the past.
Andrew had planned to teach English at the
high school level before choosing to teach Kung Fu but the desire to
pass knowledge unto others has remained one of the basic tenets of
his life.
